LACI'S HAIR FOUND IN PLIERS
ON SCOTT'S BOAT

May 13, 2003

California cops searching Scott Peterson's boat found a  pair of pliers
with strands of his murdered wife's hair on them, it was reported yesterday.
Prosecutors plan to introduce the potentially explosive DNA evidence and the
tool, discovered stashed under a seat on his 14-foot aluminum boat, as key
evidence at Peterson's trial, NBC News said. It was not immediately clear
whether authorities will try to tie the pliers to the slaying of Peterson's
pregnant wife, Laci, or his later alleged attempts to dispose of her body.

Police sources say they believe cheating hubby Peterson violently killed his
28-year-old wife in their Modesto home the night of Dec. 23 and weighed
down her body with concrete anchors before tossing it into the murky waters of
San Francisco Bay.News of the pliers' discovery came as both the prosecution
and defense claimed to have found more witnesses to back up their cases.

One potential witness for the prosecution has been described as a local burglary
suspect who was casing the Petersons' neighborhood early Christmas Eve
morning and told cops he saw Scott doing something suspicious.

There were no further details, but Peterson has already acknowledged he thought
someone was watching him load "large umbrellas" into his car that day to take
to a storage warehouse. Cops later obtained a search warrant for the warehouse.
It was not known whether they found any umbrellas.

Peterson has said he was fishing Dec. 24, the day he reported Laci
missing. Police now believe he went to the marina twice that day, once
before dawn and another time later in the day, the TV station said.

But defense sources counter they have at least one witness with information
suggesting Laci was kidnapped before she was killed, and that robberies
in the area may be tied to her disappearance.

Several neighbors have said there was a strange van parked in the
area around the time she vanished.  The defense says it already
has at least one "
credible suspect" in the case, NBC News said.

Laci's body and that of her 8 1/2-month-old fetus washed up in the bay last month.
Peterson was
busted a few days later with thousands of dollars in cash in  his pocket
and a form filled out in his brother's name for
a new  passport, police sources said.
