#2 SCOTT'S TEARFUL INTERVIEW
Jan 26, 2003
In a network TV interview, with NBC11's JODI
HERNANDEZ, Scott said he first told Modesto
police about his affair with Amber Frey on Dec. 24,
the day Laci Peterson was first reported missing.
It is a claim that Laci's friend does not believe.
"He needs to step up and do what he should have
done from the very beginning and talk to police and
talk to detectives, if he was only hiding an affair he
needs to step forward now and take a polygraph
test and do what it takes to clear his name,"
said Laci Peterson's friend Lori Ellsworth.
Ellsworth said she doesn't believe Peterson's claim
that he had told his wife about his affair. "I saw Laci
on the fourteenth of December and she was happy
as could be. She did not seem to be a person that
had this weight on her shoulders of her husband
having an affair," she said.
Peterson responded to reports someone saw him
loading something into his truck, saying it was a
patio umbrella and said reports that there was
blood found in his truck, he said he often cuts
his hands working in his fertilizer business.

Peterson told KTVU's Ted Rowlands in a one-on-
one interview in January that he thought someone
saw him loading "large umbrellas" into his car the
day Laci disappeared. Peterson said he was taking
the backyard umbrellas -- wrapped in a blue tarp --
to a warehouse he used for his fertilizer business
to store them during the wet winter months.

Speaking with Gloria Gomez of Sacramento TV
station KOVR, Peterson explained why he said he
told his wife about his affair with Amber Frey:
"It was the right thing to do. And, as you know,
when you're not doing the right thing, it eats you
up. You know you feel sick to your stomach and
you can't function. And you have a hard time,
you know, looking at someone."
He stated he was innocent, and urged
America to keep looking for his wife.
"If they would just look at their hearts and make
the effort to bring her home to her family, I don't
care what you think of me," he said.
