{word for word}

Laci Peterson and her unborn son Conner aren't the first Peterson family members to
die a violent death at the hands of a cold-blooded killer at Christmastime.

The National Enquirer has learned that Scott Peterson's maternal grandfather was savagely
bludgeoned to death as the family was getting ready to celebrate Christmas in 1945.

The brutal crime opened a painful chapter in the life of Scott's mother Jackie and
a top forensic psychiatrist believes the trauma could even have
impacted Scott.

"Children whose parents are murdered never get over it, and they pass their
trauma along unconsciously to the next generation," renowned forensic
psychstrist Andrew Hodges told the Enquirer.

Jackie was just 2 years old when her fthter, San Diego salvage yard owner
John Harvery Latham was murdered at age 32.

On Dec. 20, 1945, he phoned his wife Helen at 9 p.m. to tell her he was heading
home.  He never arrived. An employee reporting for work at 7 the next
morning discovered his body lying in a pool of blood outside the shop's office.
Latham's wallet was gone along with $200 taken from the till.

The father of four had been felled by a single blow to the back of the
head from a rusty iron pipe.

Robert Sewell, a 28 year old laborer Latham had fired, was convicted of the murder.
He told cops he turned over most of the money he took from Latham to his wife and
they took a trip to Los Angeles. Sewell was sentenced to life in
San Quentin Prison where he died in 1951.
