SYNOPSIS

Motive for Murder.  Cops pursuing the case against accused killer Scott Peterson believe the
real reason he did away with his pregnant wife
Laci was that he did not want to be a father.

In a NE exclusive, information has been obtained that reveals police discovered through
interviews with multiple important witnesses, that Laci Peterson was hurt and angry when
Scott gave every sign he didn't want the baby, whose arrival she was so eagerly awaiting.

In the weeks after Laci's disappearance, family members and friends told police about
several incidents when Scott left Laci puzzled and emotionally wounded,  by his
apparent lack of caring-incidents that now loom large in deciding Peterson's fate.

In what could be the most important aspect of the case against Scott,
prosecutors will rely on bombshell revelations that quickly began to color
investigators thinking about Scott and his views on impending fatherhood.

It started from the moment a home pregnancy test showed she was expecting, Laci's
close friend,
Kim McNeely told police.  "Laci was excited and couldn't wait to tell Scott-
but Kim said Laci told friends later that her husband was hung over from a party the
night before and didn't want to be bothered with the news,
" a close source told the NE.

"A little later, Laci discovered to her dismay that Scott hadn't done anything to make sure that health
insurance related to her pregnancy was in effect, even though they had discussed its importance.

"Scott was out of town when she found out and when he called her, she let him have it."

"A friend who'd come over to the house to keep Laci company, told LE,she overheard a heated
conversation in which Laci accused Scott of not caring about her and their baby."

"She kept asking him angrily, 'What if there are problems and there's no medical coverage?'
"Scott's foot dragging upset Laci for weeks."

When Laci had her sonogram picture taken, it produced even more friction
between Scott and Laci, police were told.  "Laci told friends that Scott wanted
her to get three-dimensional sonograms of the baby," said a close source.

"It seemed he wanted to make absolutely sure there was no chance of the child having
birth defects, and he'd made it clear he would consider abortion if that happened.  None
of Laci's closest friends believed for a second that abortion would be something she
would have wanted, and they saw it as evidence that maybe Scott was looking for an out.

"In fact, detectives were told that the incident convinced at least
one of her close friends that Scott never wanted children at all."

-  On July 4, 2002, with Laci just 2 months pregnant, Scott had a strange
conversation with a male friend who'd recently became a father, police learned.

"Scott asked him about having sex with his wife again after she'd given birth," said a close source.
"The friend told him it wouldn't be the same afterwards and Scott seemed to be very
concerned about how the frequency and quality of his sex life with Laci would change.

Lead Detective, Craig Grogan was startled when Laci's sister-in-law Rose
Rocha called him with another  memory of Scott's attitude toward fatherhood.

- "She told Grogan she was discussing her own pregnancy with Scott one day in 2001,"
said the source.  "The prospect of Laci having a baby one day was
raised-and Scott told her,
"I was kind of hoping for infertility."
"He didn't laugh-and he appeared to be deadly serious!"

Sharon Rocha also provided police with a clue to Scott's role as a reluctant dad.

- On Dec.15, 2002, she was at Laci's house when her daughter invited her to put
her ear against her tummy and listen and feel the baby kicking.  "As she did so,
Laci made a pointed comment about Scott
not wanting to do the same thing,"
said the source.  "She said he would only put his hand on her stomach
for a moment-not even waiting long enough to feel the baby's movements.

"Sharon told investigators Scott clearly heard the remarks-but didn't say a word in his own defense."

Laci's due date was February 10- ironically, Amber Frey's 28th birthday and Laci found out
that Scott planned to be in Europe on a business trip the last part of January.

To police it seemed like a heartless action by a man who should have been eager
to be supportive of his wife in the last days of her pregnancy.

"Laci told friends as late as DEC 7th, that she'd unsuccessfully begged him to cancel the trip
because it was going to be too close to when the baby was scheduled to arrive."
