January 2004 - SYNOPSIS BY DAVID THOMPSON Scott Peterson exploded into a wild rage when he learned that his ex-lover Amber Frey is pregnant by another man. "He went completely beserk," reveals fellow inmate James Soares. "The news seemed to flip a switch in Scott's head. He was spitting mad, practically bouncing off the walls of his cell." Sources say Scott found out about the pregnancy during a heated jailhouse phone call that left him absolutely crazed. "Scott was a madman," recalls Soares. "He started throwing things around his cell, banging the walls and screaming like a wild animal. "He's furious with Amber because in his eyes, they're still a couple. He still loves her very much and seems to believe that one day they can be together again." Peterson is being held under maximum security conditions at the Modesto jail. "Scott was still holding a big torch for Amber, and he's always felt that she had one for him, too," says Soares. But that phone call changed everything. "He used to talk about Amber all the time, telling the other guys in jail how hot-looking she is and what an amazing body she has," reveals Soares. "But after the phone call, his attitude toward her changed completly. He was yelling furiously and calling Amber a 'bitch'. "In his sick mind, he feels Amber betrayed him. He's not concerned one bit about her happiness and what she wants. He believes Amber has let him down." News of Amber's pregnancy has taken a physical toll on Scott, he has lost weight and is looking pale. He is no longer using money he receives from female admirers to chip in and buy beans and rice with fellow inmates. "Scott was spening up to 60 dollars a week, but he doesn't anymore. He's not as friendly or as open as he used to be," says Soares. It's clear from his erratic behaviour he has a short fuse. Some things set him off, and it's difficult to predict what he's going to do." "With Amber about to have another man's child, Scott has lost all hope," says Soares.
