PETERSON SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
ON SURVIVAL GEAR

After the bodies of his wife Laci and her unborn son washed ashore in San Francisco Bay
and- just days before his
arrest- Scott Peterson spent thousands of dollars  on survival gear
that would have enabled  him to hide out in the Mexican wilderness, The NE has learned.

He made his purchase at REI outdoors store on Copley Dr. in San Diego, paying cash
for the items. Clerks at the store said they suspected he was Scott Peterson but were
not positive until he filled out an application for REI club membership, which would
have entitled him to a 10 percent discount.  "Yes, I am Scott Peterson," he said,
smiling at the clerk, who asked not to be identified because of company policy.

Peterson was arrogant in the way he said his name, according to the clerk.
"He seemed to enjoy the notoriety."  The clerk who waited on Peterson told
other REI employees that during their discussion Peterson said,
"I recently came back from Mexico, and I am going there again."

Among Peterson's purchases were a large tent and tent cover to shield it from the sun,a water
purification system capable of making rancid water suitable for drinking andbathing, a camp
stove, a sleeping bag, a tent chair, a compassand a large supply of dried and canned food.

"Peterson was well aware of the Mexican extradition laws, which would have
prevented him from being brought back to the United States if he was facing the
death penalty, " said an investigator close to the case.

Mexico does not have the death penalty and won't give up criminals to other
countries unless they stipulate they will not seek the death penalty.

"He knew that even if he was eventually discovered hiding out, Modesto
authorities  would have to forgo the death penalty in order to get Mexico to
turn him over for prosecution, said the investigator.

But on April 18- before Laci's remains were identified- authorities decided
Peterson was a flight risk and placed him under
arrest in San Diego.

DA Jim Brazelton announced he will seek the death penalty.  Said Brazelton:
"I owe it to Laci, Conner and the community and especially the family."

Sounds like VERY convincing evidence, of Scotty planning to flee, even MORE so, than
what we've learned so far. Otherwise, why would he suddenly need, all that equipment?
I know! He had a lightbulb moment, and decided that CAMPING OUT IN THE WOODS
would be a much better stress releiver, than GOLF!

Thank you for these great posts! Although I love reading all these new facts
(and NE has been remarkably  accurate about this case - they must have good
sources), I wish that the tabloids would stop publishing this information. It
gives
Geragos all this information and time to figure out how to deal with it. On
another note, isn't it typical of monster-boy to apply for a discount while buying his
get-away equipment, thus revealing his identity!!! I only hope that he continues
to behave in this stupidly arrogant manner. His own words and behavior are the
biggest things revealing his guilt. If he had shut his trap and pretended to be a
frantic,
grieving husband, he might not even be a suspect right now. God moves in
mysterious ways. Scott's own arrogance has trapped him.
