Peterson and Frey: 241 calls in 93 days
November 18, 2003

Scott Peterson exchanged 241 cell phone calls with his lover in a 93-day period starting five
weeks before his pregnant wife disappeared, an investigator testified this morning.

Peterson and Amber Frey called each other nearly every day until Feb. 19, said Steve Jacobson,
an investigator with the Stanislaus County district attorney’s office. They include
seven calls on Christmas and a spike of 16 calls the next day.

Conspicuous was a lack of calls between the pair Dec. 24, the day authorities believe
Peterson dumped his wife's body in San Francisco Bay. The defendant told police
that night that he had been fishing alone in the bay early that afternoon.

The 31-year-old former fertilizer salesman is charged with killing his wife, Laci, and
their unborn son, Conner. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Jacobson led the courtroom through Peterson's movements Dec. 24 as indicated by calls
made with his cell phone.

The defendant appeared to make calls from his home and his warehouse in the morning,
then from Berkeley, Oakland, Castro Valley and Livermore as he returned from
the bay, Jacobson indicated.

Under questioning by defense attorney Mark Geragos of Los Angeles, Jacobson noted
no calls between Peterson and Frey on Valentine's Day. But phone records obtained by The
Bee show that Frey called Peterson once that day, and again at 2:42 a.m. the following day.

Geragos appeared to draw the image of a man concerned at having returned to an empty
house. Responding to the attorney’s questions, Jacobson confirmed that he made
several calls the evening of Dec. 24, including several to his wife's mother, Sharon Rocha,
and sister, Amy Rocha. Peterson also called 911, Jacobson acknowledged.

Peterson also called a close friend, Greg Reed, as well as his wife's friends, Stacey Boyers,
Lori Ellsworth and Rene Tomlinson, Jacobson confirmed. The defendant also called
his next-door neighbor,
Karen Servas, who last week testified that she found the
Peterson's dog roaming free with leash attached at about 10:18 a.m. Christmas Eve.

Peterson told police that his wife had plans to walk their golden retriever that day.

Jacobson also said he was aware that federal drug agents had mounted a surveillance
camera on a pole across the street from the Petersons' Covena Avenue home. He said
he couldn't remember whom he talked to in the police department about the camera.
