Peterson told Frey he "lost his wife"
November 6, 2003

Scott Peterson told his lover, Amber Frey, on Dec. 9 that he had "lost his wife,"
Frey told police after the pregnant Laci Peterson disappeared Christmas
Eve, Detective
Al Brocchini testified late this morning.

Scott  denied on Dec. 24 that he was having an affair, Brocchini testified earlier
this morning at Peterson's preliminary hearing on
double-murder charges.

Peterson told Frey in December that he was out of the country, that it was his
first holiday without his wife and that he "would be more exclusively
with her (Frey) after Jan. 25," Brocchini said Frey told him.

Peterson appeared to listen dispassionately as the detective testified.

Brocchini also said Peterson was arrested driving a maroon convertible Mercedes.
He used his mother's name when he bought the car with 36 $100 bills. And, Peterson
had changed his
appearance when arrested April 18, Brocchini testified.

The seller told Brocchini he asked about Peterson's supposed name, Jacqueline
Peterson, and Scott Peterson said his parents gave him the name. He said
it was "a
boy-named-Sue kind of thing," Brocchini said the seller told him.
