Defense attorney absent,
Today's session cancelled

November 5, 2003

12:06 p.m. PST: Today’s sessions of Scott Peterson’s preliminary hearing
were canceled because his lead attorney was absent.

Mark Geragos was detained in Los Angeles, where he returned earlier
this week to address jury questions in another murder case.

Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Al Girolami initially delayed today’s
start in the Peterson matter until 2:30 p.m., then canceled the entire day’s
proceedings at 11:22 a.m. for reasons that were not explained.

Peterson is accused of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their son, Conner.

More than 40 journalists from across the nation had gathered this morning to
hear testimony from Modesto police Det. Al Brocchini. Defense attorneys have
suggested that he planted evidence to frame Peterson. The judge in the Southern
California case reopened arguments Tuesday after that jury came back with
four questions during six days of deliberation, attorneys involved said.
