Other revelations this morning:

* In a police interview shortly after midnight Christmas Day, Scott Peterson
agreed to have his hands tested for residue showing whether he had
fired a
gun recently, Brocchini said.  He said Peterson asked if exhaust
from an outboard motor he operated Dec. 24 would trigger a positive result.

Prosecutor Rick Distaso did not question Brocchini about the test results.

* Peterson decided the morning of Dec. 24 to fish alone in San Francisco Bay, changing previous
plans to play golf because "it was too cold to go golfing," Brocchini said Peterson told him.

Laci Peterson's sister, Amy Rocha, testified last week that Scott Peterson had offered on
Dec. 24 to pick up a gift for her grandfather near the country club to which Peterson belonged.

Brocchini said he listened to a message that Scott Peterson left on his
wife's cell phone after leaving the Berkeley Marina Dec. 24. Referring to
his police report,  Brocchini read Peterson's words on the witness stand:

"Hey Beautiful, I just left you a message at home. I'm leaving Berkeley and won't be
able to get to Vella Farms to get the basket for Papa. See you soon, Sweetie. Bye."

The bodies of Laci and Conner Peterson were recovered in mid-April
a few miles from where Scott Peterson said he went fishing.

* Peterson's description of Brooks Island, the only island in the bay near Berkeley,
appeared to be fairly accurate, said Brocchini, who had visited the area since.

Brocchini said Peterson described trolling in shallow water,
stopping when the water got "too choppy and it started to rain.

* Peterson had trouble backing his new boat trailer down a ramp at the marina, he told
Brocchini. Some maintenance men "got a good laugh" while watching, Peterson said.

* Peterson found his golden retriever with its leash still attached in the
back yard of his home upon returning from fishing, he told Brocchini.

A neighbor has said she found the dog running free and put it in the back yard.

* Peterson called Brocchini to say he wished the detective
had told him that he had confiscated Peterson's handgun.

Brocchini said he told Peterson it was "illegal to have a loaded gun
in the glove box,and I was going to put into evidence."

* Peterson also called to ask Brocchini if police were using
cadaver dogs to search for his missing wife near Dry Creek.

" I told him I hadn't considered her being dead yet," Brocchini said. "I was surprised."

* Scott bought his 14-foot aluminum fishing boat Dec. 9, paying Bruce Peterson -
no relation - 15 $100 bills, Brocchini said Bruce Peterson told him.
Bruce Peterson said he had never used the boat in salt water, Brocchini said.

Scott also recreated for Brocchini the last morning that Peterson said he saw his wife.
She awakened before him, they both had a bowl of cereal and watched a portion of Martha
Stewart on television - "Laci's favorite show," Brocchini said. He said Peterson
remembered "cooking, something to do with
meringue" on the show.
