Judge: DNA Found In Peterson's Boat Admissible
Experts Say Strand Of Hair Is From Slain Modesto Woman
November 17, 2003

MODESTO, Calif. -- The judge in the Laci Peterson murder case said Monday
a type of DNA extracted from Scott Peterson's boat is admissible as evidence.

Investigators believe the human hair found in pliers in the boat is from
Laci Peterson, who disappeared last Dec. 24.

Experts said the mitochrondrial DNA cannot specifically identify an individual.
It's not as reliable as the more familiar nuclear DNA, but the judge said
prosecutors could tell a jury it's likely the DNA from that strand of hair is
found in one out of every 112 white people.
