Divers Search the Bay

Divers renewed a search of the waters off San Francisco on Friday for
evidence in the case of Laci Peterson, the pregnant woman whose body washed
out of the bay last month leading to murder charges against her husband.

Investigators declined to say what they were looking for, but CNN cited
sources as saying divers were particularly interested in finding the anchors
that might have helped weigh down Peterson's body while it was underwater.

"I know the Modesto Police Department has certain objectives that they
want to accomplish with this
search," said Sgt. Doug Pittman of the
Marin Country Sheriff's Office, which sent 11 divers into the Bay.
He said he did not know how long the search would last.

Laci Peterson disappeared from her Modesto, California, home last
Christmas Eve, in a case that has received extensive national news
coverage. Her husband, Scott Peterson, was charged with
murder after
her body and that of their unborn son were discovered washed
out of the bay. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Coroner's officials on Thursday completed autopsies on the bodies,
which were badly decomposed when they were found. Results of those
autopsies have been sealed. However it has been reported that
Laci Peterson's body had no head when it was discovered.

Officials have declined to comment on a Fox News report that coroner's
officials had been unable to determine a cause of death for Laci. Fox said
an unnamed defense source had told the network that Laci's body
had been "carved up" and was missing the head and other body parts.

I think he's good for it, too! They are looking mainly for the weights,
whether they are cement blocks or homemade anchors. If a body part is
attached to a weight, that will be very helpful. They are also looking for wire
or chains. I hope they find something, because it would tie the case together
much more neatly and go a long way in proving that he planned the
murder by making the weights in advance.
