JURY TO BEGIN WEIGHING
FATE OF MAN TODAY

A Superior Court jury is expected to begin weighing the fate of
Robert Sewell, 28, Negro, accused if the murder of
John H. Latham this morning.  The case will go to the jury of
eight women and four men after Superior Judge William A.
Glen has given the jurors their final instructions.

Taking of testimony was completed at the trial yesterday
morning, and attorneys spent the afternoon court session
making their final arguments.

Sewell is accused of mudering his former employer on
December 20, 1945, while attempting to rob Latham at his
tire shop and salvage yard.  He signed a confession early
this year, but tried to nullify the confession at the trial by
testifying he confessed only after being severly beaten by a
police officer.  The prosecution presented  evidence to show
he had not been mistreated or intimidated.
