Jurors  in the Scott Peterson murder trial heard a tape
of Amber Frey reading Peterson a letter he wrote to her.

"Seeds into your life are soon to bloom ... first joy will be ... I said you deserve wondrous
ecstasies in all aspects of your life. All these things will be yours soon
," Frey read.

On Amber Frey's 28th birthday, Feb. 10,  the day his missing wife was due to give
birth to their first child, Scott Peterson told his girlfriend to find a light post, with
purple flowers next to it,  in the parking lot of  Valley Children's Hospital -- now
called Children's Hospital Central California -- where "
there would be a
package there for me,
"telling her, "You need to treat yourself on your birthday."

Frey, who by her Feb. 10, 2003, birthday had been secretly taping Peterson's calls
for weeks at the request of Modesto police, had balked at meeting her lover in person.

In a brief turn on the witness stand between recordings, Frey said he had left her a bag of
gifts
in a Trader Joe's grocery bag.  She identified the items while on the stand when shown
photos of the gifts:  a cross-shaped necklace that appeared inlaid with pieces of amber.,
the Norah Jones CD "Come Away With Me," wild flower seeds, and a shiny
decorative box engraved with the shapes of the moon and the sun.

"It was the silver box the necklace was in," Frey said in a whisper as she gazed up at the image on a
large projection screen. The screen is adjacent to the defense table, but Frey never looked at Peterson.

In a call before her birthday, he offered to send Frey to a resort to celebrate
and later he asked if he could pay her $800 cellphone bill. She declined to let him.

Frey's birthday fell on Laci Peterson's original due date. When there was no sign of her, the missing
person's investigation was reclassified as a homicide case. Peterson was
arrested two months later.
