| LACI'S DOCTOR TAKES THE STAND Thursday, June 17, 2004 Testifying Thursday was one of the three obstetricians Laci saw during the course of her pregnancy. Dr. Tina Edraki said she and the baby were healthy when she came into the office in August 2002. Jurors learned that Laci had concerns about her pregnancy after becoming dizzy and light-headed during her usual 20-minute daily walk. Dr. Tina Edraki, a Modesto doctor, said Peterson had called twice in early November to ask what she should do about the dizzyness. She was nearly 26 weeks pregnant. Edraki said she told Peterson to either quit her walks or to walk later in the day after she had eaten more and was better hydrated. She called two days later with the same concern. Prosecutors have implied Laci was too weak in her eighth month of pregnancy to walk the family dog. But on cross-examination, Edraki acknowledged that Laci, known to be headstrong, did not follow her recommendation. Records indicate she phoned two days after the initial call and told a nurse practitioner that she experienced shortness of breath while walking. "She didn't listen to your don't walk advice," Geragos asked. "Right," the doctor said. Edraki also said that the most accurate ultrasound one performed in July indicated a due date of Feb. 10, 2003. Laci Peterson was nearly 33 weeks pregnant when she disappeared, she said. Earlier in the pregnancy, Laci also complained of pain in her abdominal area, where she had had a surgery, Edraki said. She then expressed concerns to Edraki about the pregnancy. Edraki said she had met Scott during a regular check up with Laci, and said she thought he was supportive of the pregnancy. "He never verbalized anything, but I assumed," Edraki said. The age of the couple's unborn son is in dispute. The defense claims his remains are those of a full-term baby born alive.
