Letter writers say they have key to who killed Laci Peterson
April 16, 2004

Yet another person has come forward with information they believe
shows who killed Laci Peterson and her unborn son.

For the second time in less than a week, someone mailed a letter to the San Mateo
County Superior Court purporting to know details of the slayings.

In it the writer included hair samples from the person they suspect could be involved as well as
their own hair,
Judge Alfred Delucchi said. The writer also included their own fingerprints.

The contents of the letter were not revealed and Delucchi placed the note under seal.

Another letter whose writer claimed to know who could be responsible for the Peterson slaying arrived
on Thursday.
Defense attorneys said they planned to investigate whether there was any validity to that
letter. They did not indicate this morning whether they would investigate the letter discussed today.

Jury selection in the case continued this morning.

One prospective juror said her husband was convicted of killing a random
person in the 1980's. He was sent to prison, she said, where he was later
killed by someone the state corrections department never caught.

Delucchi arranged to have her discuss the matter further in private after she indicated
she was uncomfortable discussing the subject. They emerged about 10 minutes
later for additional questioning before she was qualified for the final jury pool.

She became the 51st person to be moved to the last stage of jury selection.
Lawyers will choose 12 regular jurors and six alternates to sit on the final panel in the case.
