Scott Peterson’s sister-in-law, Janey Peterson, broke down
in tears on the stand Thursday as she recalled a Christmas
present he had gotten her after she married into the family.
“I think it was the first Christmas, when Joe and I were
married,” Janey Peterson said after bowing her head
as she tried to compose herself. “He gave me a
big pair of fuzzy bear slippers. … I think he was 15.”
Will the jury think of Scott giving Laci and his son a watery grave on Christmas Eve?

Robert Talbott,a University of San Francisco University law
professor, said the defense was succeeding in shifting focus.

“Jurors are all watching her (Janey),” Talbott said. “I think Geragos is doing
an effective job of shifting the focus to the Petersons. He’s pulling the
emphasis away from the horror of the crime to the effect on the family.”

But is he?

Janey recounted the first time she met his slain wife.
"She took my breath away. She was just bubbly and fun and energetic and beautiful,"
Will the jury be reminded that Scott took Laci's breath away on December 24th?

Scott Peterson's mother and sister, seated in the gallery, sobbed as Janey  spoke of Laci.

The same jury that convicted Peterson Nov. 12 of first-degree murder in the death of his
wife, Laci, and second-degree murder in the death of the fetus she carried is weighing
whether to recommend a sentence of death or life in prison without parole.
