SCOTT'S LIES LAID BARE
By HOWARD BREUER and KATE SHEEHY

Prosecutors yesterday rocked the start of Scott Peterson's sensational
slay trial by flashing grisly photos of his wife and her dead fetus on
a huge courtroom screen, after systematically ripping apart his alibi
and revealing stunning details of his seedy double life.

The prosecution's move came after its lead lawyer painted Peterson as
an outrageously flagrant,
cheating hubby with murder on his mind.

Among the more crucial prosecution assertions yesterday were:

* Frey didn't know that Peterson might be married until a friend of hers ratted him
out to her in early December 2001 - and when confronted, a wily Peterson wept
crocodile tears, telling her he had been married but that his
wife had died.

He was so nervous and upset, "she could hear his stomach rumbling" during their talk, Distaso said.

* Peterson told Amber Frey "he would be with his family duck-hunting in
Maine for Christmas and in Europe for New Year's,"
Distaso said.

"He said he would return from his European travels at the end of January and at that time,
they would be able
to have a more exclusive relationship," the prosecutor said.

That was two weeks before Laci disappeared.

*On the day she vanished, Peterson told Laci's mom, uncle and two neighbors
he had gone golfing that day, while he told detectives he'd been fishing.

* Peterson tried to deny his affair with Frey, a single mom with a toddler, even after
incriminating photos of the lovers surfaced shortly after Laci's disappearance.

When a detective showed him one of the shots of him and Frey, a smug
Peterson smirked,
"Is that supposed to be me?"

* As his pregnant wife was struggling with her tough pregnancy but  still happily decorating
a
nursery in their home, the salesman adamantly told Frey he didn't want kids.

"Your child is enough for me. I'm even thinking of getting a vasectomy," Peterson allegedly told Frey.

* "I'm very anxious to have this over with, to have the truth come out,"
said
Jackie Peterson, Scott's mom, who was wearing an oxygen mask.
She said she needs a lung transplant because of chronic bronchitis.

*During the first day of the trial, Distaso tried to punch holes in Peterson's alibi.
Peterson said he originally planned to golf the day Laci disappeared, but that it was
too cold, so he went fishing instead after making
"a that-morning-type of decision."

*But Peterson had actually bought a fishing license four days
before that was valid only for Dec. 23 and 24, Distaso said.

Instead of fishing, prosecutors said, Peterson drove about 100 miles
from his home to the
Berkeley Marina to dump Laci's body after killing her.
When it came to Peterson's alleged double life, the prosecutor described how
Peterson would literally spend a few days with Frey and then a few days with his wife.
