| Smoking Gun Photo Obtained - Search Warrant Details May Be Unsealed Apr. 8, 2003 — A Modesto judge may unseal some key documents in the Laci Peterson disappearance case. In the meantime, ABC7 has obtained the photo that turned the case on its head when it was first shown to Laci's family. It's a picture Modesto Police showed to Laci Peterson's family to convince them Laci's husband Scott was not the devoted husband he claimed to be. It's Peterson with another woman —Amber Frey— at a Christmas party on Dec. 14, 2002, just ten days before Peterson's pregnant wife Laci disappeared. Ava Frey, Amber Frey's sister: "My mother and I have been actively involved in the search since January." Ava Frey is Amber Frey's older sister. She wants people to know that her family was also devastated to learn of Scott Peterson's apparent double life. ABC7's Laura Anthony: "Has he tried to contact her?" Ava Frey: "I don't believe they have contact now,but he did try to contact her in the past." ABC7's Laura Anthony: "After Laci disappeared?" Ava Frey: "Yes." The Frey's became unwitting participants in the Peterson case after Amber admitted having an affair with Scott Peterson, but denied knowing he was married. But Ava Frey says what her sister and family have endured is nothing compared to what Laci Peterson's relatives have gone through. Ava Frey: "It's an every day thing for us, but it's an every second thing for them and I just feel so sorry for them." Meantime, media lawyers convinced a Modesto judge to consider unsealing at least part of the 8 search warrants served in the Peterson case — including those used to search the couple's home and get DNA samples from Scott Peterson. Police oppose the move, saying "the police department supports the argument put forth by the District Attorney's office that this information should not be released to the public or the media while the investigation is ongoing."
