| The search for Laci
Hope fuels efforts to locate missing Modesto woman M.S. Enkoji -- Bee Staff Writer Thursday, January 9, 2003 For the first time since Laci Peterson disappeared from her Modesto neighborhood, Jordan Visola stepped from her home on the same street Wednesday, leashed her dog and went for a walk. Like Peterson, Visola is petite. Like Peterson, Visola has dark, shoulder-length hair. And like Peterson, Visola is pregnant. "I usually look at the other houses and the landscaping, but today, I kind of kept looking around me," said Visola, 31, who has never met Peterson. For anyone who knows anything about Peterson's disappearance on Christmas Eve and the ensuing massive hunt to find the 27-year-old woman, Visola presented a startling image as she and her dog strolled into her yard just doors down from Peterson's home. "I feel connected because we have so many things in common," said Visola, a graphic designer who expects twins in four months. In the two weeks since Peterson was reported missing by her husband, just about everyone in Stanislaus County has found some connection to the pixie-faced woman about to become a mother for the first time. That connection has inspired hundreds of volunteers to blanket Modesto and surrounding towns with fliers and hand out thousands of blue and yellow ribbons -- yellow for the missing woman, blue for her boy with a Feb. 10 due date. Scott Peterson told police he left for a fishing outing the morning of Christmas Eve as his wife departed to walk the dog in a nearby park. A neighbor found the dog wandering the neighborhood an hour later, dragging a muddy leash. Police can't confirm that she ever took the walk.
