| Monday, June 26, 2004 Monday, financial planner Brian Ullrich of Modesto said Scott Peterson stood to gain $250,000 from his wife's life insurance. But Ullrich also said he pursued Scott Peterson -- not the other way around -- and that Ullrich initially recommended a $100,000 policy before Laci Peterson insisted on the higher value. Regarding the Petersons' financial planning, Ullrich acknowledged that Scott did not ask for less-expensive term life insurance, and that his wife's policy would not pay for seven years if she could not be found. Ullrich testified that Laci and Scott Peterson bought two $250,000 life insurance policies in May 2001, after Ullrich initiated contact, he said. At the time, they had just purchased a house and believed the insurance policies and retirement accounts were investment tools, Ullrich said. Their meeting occurred 19 months before Laci vanished and long before she became pregnant with what would have been the couple's first child, Geragos pointed out in his questions. "(Scott Peterson) didn't call you saying, 'Hey, I want to get some life insurance on Laci before I go fishing in the bay?'" defense attorney Mark Geragos said. Ullrich agreed. Ullrich also said that Scott never filed a claim on his wife's policy. And, Scott had talked about a fishing boat about three months before Laci Peterson vanished, Ullrich said. Ullrich said he also remembered telling police that Scott Peterson once told him "all he wanted for Christmas was his wife back."
