TERRI WESTERN
Selling started soon after case began
Peterson asked about home, later traded in car, witnesses testify
September 8, 2004

Scott Peterson explored selling his home three weeks after his pregnant
wife was reported missing and succeeded in unloading her vehicle five
weeks after she vanished, witnesses testified Tuesday.
The day’s most moving testimony came from real estate agent Terri Western, who sold Scott
and
Laci Peterson their home at 523 Covena Ave. in Modesto for $160,000 in the fall of 2000.

Western’s daughter  Stacey Boyers, was a close childhood friend of Laci ’s and their
friends would often choose to stay at her home because she was a heavy sleeper.  She
helped establish a volunteer search center shortly after the
substitute teacher disappeared.

After the possible discovery of Laci Peterson's body, Western said: "It's a bittersweet moment in
that we all want this to be a positive outcome. But if it is Laci, there's closure for Laci and her
family and friends";  As a friend of the
Rocha family, she spoke at Laci's Memorial Service.

Western’s voice broke when she recalled speaking with Laci  — for what turned out to be the
last time — at a holiday party on
Dec. 14, 2002. The uncomfortable mother-to-be wore high
heels because
“she always wanted to look nice and proper,” and she attended alone because
her husband’s boss ordered him to a surprise meeting in San Francisco, Western said.

In reality, a tuxedo-clad Peterson attended a Christmas formal where he mugged for cameras
cheek-to-cheek with his new
girlfriend in Fresno, according to previous evidence.

The judge handed Western a tissue box, and Sharon Rocha — Laci ’s
mother and Western’s friend — appeared to cry in the audience.

Sale mentioned at search center
Western testified that Scott Peterson asked her about selling the couple’s La Loma
area home on Jan. 14, 2003, as he went through e-mail at the volunteer search center.
She said Peterson told her,
“I can’t have Laci come back there.” Western said she
replied,
“Well, I understand, however, now is not the time or place to discuss this.”

Two weeks later, Peterson traded his wife’s Land Rover.

Western acknowledged that Scott Peterson posted a handwritten sign at the search center, reading:
“Volunteers: As I see every person come through this door, or out searching, I tell Laci about them,
looking for her. Early this morning, I felt she could hear me. She thanks you. Laci’s husband.”

Detective Jon Buehler asked Western, Geragos said, “to notify him if you discovered
any division of loyalty between Scott Peterson and (Laci’s) family.”
Western agreed.

Geragos has tried to show that police zeroed in on Peterson to the exclusion of other leads.
